My Name is Sarah McNaughton and I so excited that you are here! I truly believe that there is freedom in sharing our story not only for ourselves, but for others who are still trying to decide the life they want to live. I have struggled with depression for a large portion of my life and through this have come to realize just how important it is to put your physical health and mental health first. Something as seemingly small as the endless winters where I live have played a huge role in my mental health and coming to realize this and learning to understand all of the other contributors to mental health has changed the way I live my life.
I grew up being shy, lacking confidence, never feeling fully happy, and struggling with an incredibly overactive and negative mind. I have come to learn that my thoughts and my outlook on life were my worst enemy and they kept me from becoming my best self. I worked hard to develop a version of myself that I thought would fill the void I felt in my life.
I was always striving for that “next” thing and when I was accepted into a master’s program, what should have been incredibly exciting news made me feel numb. I drove around mindlessly for a majority of the day, punishing myself for not being excited by the news. I had worked so hard to build the life I wanted and I was coming to the realization that I was going to have to start all over again (this is not something that I had made space for in my timeline). At that moment my husband suggested that I seek out a life coach. Apparently, the universe agreed with Matt and I met my life coach a week later at an event in Calgary, listening to her talk I knew that this was the step I needed to take.
I have worked very hard to become the person that I am now and the one thing that I have learned is that it doesn’t happen overnight. There is no magic pill, no hidden secret, and no quick-fix that will transform you into the “perfect human”. Perfection is a fallacy and the joy of life is the journey, not the destination. Incorporating a healthy approach towards self-growth, nutrition, and fitness has changed my life for the better and I am so excited to see where this path takes me.
My goal with Balance By Sarah is to help others discover the path to their best selves. The sooner we can embrace this wonderful journey, the sooner we can let go of what is holding us back and open ourselves up to the amazing opportunities and experiences the universe has to offer.
